Why You Might Be Failing at Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate Marketing is like any business, as there are no guarantees when it comes to it’s success.  There is a lot of work that goes into it and many products and programs available to focus on.  At the very least, you should be able to make a supplemental income.  Affiliate Marketing is the easiest and fastest way to generate income online or otherwise.

So, does this sound like you?  “I’ve did everything I needed to do to set my business up, I’ve been working myself crazy and am still not making it”.  Is this you?  It’s normal for people to have very high expectations when starting an affiliate marketing business.

Here’s why you might be failing at affiliate marketing:

Lack of familiarity.

You need to know your product and/or program through and through to better serve your customers/clients to the best of your ability.  You could be blindsiding yourself with what you don’t know.  Many affiliates don’t take the time to really dig into their product/programs to know all they need to know to be able to better serve their customers.  Providing superficial information to your customers doesn’t always cut it.  They know when you don’t know what you’re doing.  They can tell when you aren’t an authority in your field or program.  Customers want to rely and trust you, they don’t come to your blog only to see content on your blog that others have.  So, research, research, research is what I recommend you do.  If you can’t be an authority of what you are offering, then you are not ready.  Yes, you can learn while you earn, but you need to really do your homework with the core information of what you are offering.

Wrong methodology.

How are you functioning your business?  Are you mainly concentrating on sales?  If sales is what drives you that could be part of your problem.  Yes, sales is important, and you need to get them.  If all you want is sales, that will show through in what you are doing.  You should be a provider of information, a helper, providing what people need.  This way is better as you’ll attract a bigger following this way.  Your chances of developing relationships is higher and will increase your chances of sales.

Too much competition.

Regardless if your business operates online or offline or both, if you chose a niche that is overly saturated in competition, then you just shot your foot in your chances in having success in affiliate marketing.  You need to consider a niche with less competition.  This does make a difference.  Targeting BIG may seem attractive and many feel that’s the way to go, but it’s the way not to go.  Bigger isn’t always better.  Huge niches that have a lot of competition, are very competitive and make it harder to find a target audience.

Multiple Niches.

I almost made this mistake in two ways.  I was going to have two websites and two different niche’s in the beginning and I immediately ran into an unexpected wall.  That wall is known as RESEARCH.  During my initial startup stages, I started to realize the demands that one niche/website can have.  So I trashed all thoughts of a secondary niche.  Someday I may add another niche, but that day isn’t today.  In the beginning you have too much to work on.  What you don’t need is to divide your attention in half or even thirds.  One niche is more than enough to get started.  Ton’s of money can be made with just one niche.  So, give yourself a break and centrally focus on one niche.  Okay, yes, for sure, two niches can be done, if you’re that capable, and want to overload yourself, then go for it.  But this can be a disadvantage.  I don’t recommend it at all starting out.

Fake and Fraudulent.

Remember when I said to do research, research, and more research?  Well, you can run into fake and fraudulent trainings and affiliate programs that offer you only dreams and no success.  So, if you are finding yourself stuck in Nowheresville, perhaps you need to reevaluate what you are working with.  You need to avoid any so called get rich quick schemes.  The only one getting rich is the person who sold you the program, while laughing at you behind their back.  The trainings can come discussed as an online marketing products, or programs or a combination thereof.  You may even run into a partial legitimate offer that the initial part is good, but the rest is a sham.   Remember the old adage, “if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is”.  Success is never guaranteed, it’s earned and can take time to get there.

Lazy and not crazy.

It’s easy, to get caught up in life and other happenings.  If you work full time and are running your affiliate marketing business on the side.  There are some nights you just don’t want to deal with the business.  This is normal.  The problem comes when one day goes into two.  Three days go into four. And before you know it, a week has passed and no progress is made.  The single question you need to ask yourself each night and be serious with your self and ask yourself “is there any real reason I can’t do this tonight?”  What you need to do is to work crazy hard.  It’s ok to take a break when you need it, I do, it’s when your breaks turn into days and weeks that kill your chances of success.

The turning point.
