Affiliate marketing according to Investopedia is an advertising model in which a company compensates third-party publishers to generate traffic or leads to the company’s products and services. The third-party publishers are affiliates, and the commission fee incentivizes them to find ways to promote the company.

This is a relatively simple business model for people to make use of as in simple terms they are sharing their affiliate marketing id within the content being shared online.

Here are some pros:

No to low-cost business venture – The only fees you’d have to pay is if you want to buy any premium trainings or resources to aide in furthering your business

No experience necessary – You would learn as you go with free trainings.

Can be a secondary income – While you are building this business and working at the same time, it can be a great secondary source of income.  You can build it to the point of replacing your full-time income.

Flexibility – You can set your own hours, and be your own boss.   If you need a day off, then you can fit it in.  It’s your business as it’s a sole proprietorship.  The sky is the limit.

No customer service – This is not for you to be concerned about as the companies you promote will handle most of this for you

Here are some cons:

No Control – You don’t control the affiliate programs or your competition.  You also won’t establish a customer base as all customers will continue to purchase via the company’s websites.

Revenue not guaranteed – No one promised that you’ll reg any revenue while you are endeavoring to drive traffic to a company’s website for the purpose of gaining commissions.  Just because they click on your affiliate marketing link and visit the website, doesn’t mean a purchase will be made.

Hijacked links – This is a rare occurrence, but sometimes there are fraudsters who will hijack your link to gain commissions.  Most affiliate marketers do not do this.

Pros and Cons of an Online Business.

Here are some Pros:

Wide Reach – Can have a wider and broader reach for customers than just having a physical place to conduct a business.

Less business overheads – Unlike a physical place of business, your overhead would be less. 

Customer Relationships – Can build strong relationships with your customers

Customer Tracking – You can track your customers online having to do with their purchases and preferences.

Availability – You can be available to your customers 24 hours a day, every day with an online business providing online access whenever they need.

Here are some cons:

Customer Service – You would need to provide customer service to your customers to ensure their satisfaction.

Internet Fraud – You can run into unethical business practices where your logos and trademarks can be used against you.  This can negatively impact your reputation.

Accessibility issues – Depending upon the area some people are and /or the elderly or those who don’t have internet access won’t be able to make use of what you are promoting.

Special skills – You would be your own advertiser & marketer to get the word out of your business and what you promote.  You would have to create your own advertisements.
