Ultimate Guide – Affiliate Marketing For Dummies

This is a basic, no-nonsense guide into knowing what affiliate marketing is and starting an affiliate marketing business.  Honestly, I never liked those titles that have “for dummies” in them.  None of us are dummies, it is just a lack of knowledge that is the issue.

There are plenty of articles on Timabeck.com focusing on affiliate marketing, but this article is a more basic how to guide for those needing a better understanding.

Let’s reveal all the goods on affiliate marketing:

What is affiliate marketing?

Affiliate marketing is a performance-based marketing business model in which a business rewards you for each visitor or customer brought by your own marketing efforts by sharing your affiliate marketing ID.  Basically, you the affiliate would get paid for selling other company’s products and services.

Who is affiliate marketing for?

Anyone who is interested in making money online as it is the easiest and fastest way to make money online.

Is affiliate marketing for you?

Affiliate marketing is for anyone who can devote at least a couple of hours a day at a minimum of at least 3 days a week, and has internet access.  The more time you can devote the better.

If you are someone who is highly motivated, can work independently and willing to learn, affiliate marketing is for you.

Is affiliate marketing a get rich quick business model?

The short answer is of course No.  You can in time and with dedicated effort work toward creating a lucrative income with affiliate marketing.  This reality is not guaranteed, as affiliate marketers must proactively dedicate themselves to their cause to build their affiliate marketing business.

Is experience required?

No, experience is not required as everyone starts at the same place and has access to a ton of free lessons.  Of course, the more you know prior to starting your affiliate marketing business will benefit you.

How do affiliate marketers get paid?

This depends upon the company you affiliate with.  Some offer commissions sent to an affiliate marketer’s paypal.com account, and/or in the form of a check.  Each company can be different.  Pay frequencies can differ too for any commissions that have been earned and accrued.

Your business your way.

What I mean here, you set your own pace, hours and days of week that you run your business.  Any free lessons you take are self-paced.  There is no boss hanging over your shoulders pushing you to get the work done.

A note about affiliate marketing platforms.

Not all affiliate marketing platforms are created equal.  By this I mean, that some will suspend your account if you don’t make any sales within a specified time with the ability to reactivate your accounts with some limitations.  I highly recommend Clickbank.com as they don’t disable accounts for lack of performance that I have seen.

No website required.

While having a website is highly recommended, it is by no means required.  The advantage of having a website or blog is in one word – “automation”.  You could literally make money while you sleep.

You can now operate your business without a website just by creating a dedicated email signup page.

Websites can be added to your business at any time, so don’t let this be a stumbling block for your business.

Keyword Research

The importance of research.

There are two aspects of research for affiliate marketing:

  1.  Keyword research – This is important where you research keywords that help drive organic traffic to your website or blog.  Organic traffic is those who specifically are searching for what you are offering.  When you do keyword research, you are assured that you are providing content that is being searched for. For keyword research, check out Thehoth.com.
  2. Content specific research – This is where you are researching data on the specific posts you are writing about in order to provide what your readers are wanting.

You want to make sure that you are providing what is wanted, otherwise you could end up with readers leaving your website or blog and these are those that are referred to as “Bounce”.  They get on and see that it’s not what they want and leave right away.

Your posts, promotions & other content, such as podcasts and videos rely on the overall research you do.

Don’t compare yourself with others.

This is not a good practice to get into.  The thing you have to keep in mind is that you don’t know what skills or backgrounds others had when they started affiliate marketing.  But it is a good idea to pay attention to how the PRO’s do it for certain things to get insights on.  There is a difference here as you are getting ideas from the PRO’s to handle certain areas of need rather than trying to be like them.

Never ever plagiarize.

This is the golden rule of content creation.  Avoiding doing this will keep you out of serious trouble.   If you use anything you find, always give credit to the authors.  If you don’t want to give credit, them reword what you find online for your content.  Not doing this can also ruin your reputation online and you don’t want to do that.

Your reputation.

As you move forward, you online reputation becomes increasingly important, as you will become concerned about your brand.  So take care and never stop learning.
