How To Make Content Marketing Work for You

No matter your level of experience, there are ways that you can make content marketing work for you.  We’ll expose some secrets and give you some tips that will surprise you and get you going to being successful at content marketing.

So, how can you make content marketing work for you?

Follow these tips to make it happen:

1)-Know your target audience – You need to be aware of whom you are “working” for as it does matter.  This is the most important rule in addition to setting goals.  This is your starting point in content marketing.

2)- Set Goals – If you don’t know where you are going, you’ll never get there.  What do you want to achieve with content marketing?  From these goals come your other steps.  Before you create any content, you need to ask yourself why you are creating it?  Is it for conversions, downloads, apps, or traffic etc?  You should be setting goals even for the content you are writing about.

3)- Research – After you establish the 1st two steps, you need to realize who is actually going to see the content you are working on.  These are your target audience and if you miss the point with them, you’ll achieve lots of bounces.  It’s also advisable to get feedback from your audience on what they are looking for.  Your audience is a valuable source for research.

Saves time and effort

If you are having trouble with your research either in part or whole, there is a way that you can get around this and that is by using AI (Artificial Intelligence) as there is a resource that you can make use of to get past that bump.  You can either write a whole post or a section or piece of a post with this software.  There is a free version to use online. 4)- Review/Update old content – Its never a bad idea to review content that you previously published.  This is especially a good idea if none of it is “evergreen” in that what it was about is not valid anymore.  You never know if a part of an old post isn’t relevant anymore and it’s a good idea for a review now and then.  I’ve had to completely scrap an entire post as it was no longer relevant.  You don’t want something on your blog that no longer has any relevancy especially if the product or service you were talking about no longer exists.  That can make you look bad.

5)- Topic Research – There are different ways to go about this and you need this to do your main research.  This centers on keyword research and to see what is trending in your niche.  You can use Google Trends to see what people are searching for as well as Thehoth.com as they have a great keyword research tool.  If you don’t do this kind of research, then you’d most likely be missing the mark on what people are searching for.

6)- Social Media – In the form of “auto promoting”, you need to decide which social media platforms you are going to share with.  So as you publish your posts, they will be automatically shared to your social media sites.  When you do this, only share an “excerpt” of the post thus forcing them to come to your website to see the rest of the post.

7)- Audio/Visual – Add podcasting and/or video casting to your content lineup.  I have and it does help people get a better handle on things. If you are not an expert at this, do it anyway and improve as you go.  It’s the best way to learn and if you are not confident, create them anyway and just don’t publish them until you get them perfected.  Check out our video casts on affiliate marketing.

8)- Brainstorming – This does help as I do it now and then.  Start by writing down may ideas, terms and topics to write about that your audience would be interested in.  You can take polls on your site and get your audience involved in this process.  You can even do a video cast and suggest that people can make note of their questions in the comments section to get ideas for your content.

9)- Content – Content marketing applies to more than just your posts that you compose and share on social media.  It all so applies to videos, podcasts, e-books, and any other content that you would publish.  You need to do your research and apply what you learn to any form of your publishing you do.  Regardless which form you are working on, there is the time and effort you have to put in to it.

10)- Filenames – When adding images, documents, and other content related files to your site, it’s a good idea to put keywords into the filenames when uploading.  A good example would be like – affiliatemarketing.jpg.  This practice helps with your SEO search results.
