Creating a successful email campaign starts from the point of setup. You want to make sure that all is in order. So even if you have to redo some things, those changes are worth it. Now if you don’t have a website, but still want to collect your readers email addresses, you can, check out AWeber.com for details. It’s never too late to make things right.
Newsletter platforms.
Be very picky as for the type of email platform (plugin) you choose to have your email newsletters automatically sent to your subscribers. They are not all created equal and their email limits can vary. Be sure to choose one that best fits your needs and budget if need be. Not all email platforms are compatible with all themes, so be sure to review your needs and requirements.
Email setup.
As far as your terminology is concerned, stop referring to those who sign up with your email list as subscribers. Start referring to them as community members. It’s more personable and it good for relationship building. If you can change the term of subscriber to community member in your settings, do that too.
In the From field of your settings, to make it more personable, it’s a good idea to put your name there. In my case, I use Tim Beck. What ever best represents your business is the way to go.
Email list – you should also have something where those who make comments, can be given the option to be added to the email list. If your newsletter system gives you this option.
Confirmation page – You should have a confirmation page thanking them for signing up.
Note: If you are able to edit any of the emails going out to confirm signups, it’s a good idea to add a note indicating that if they don’t confirm, they are not subscribed.
Opt-In box.
You should have an email opt-in box throughout your website or blog, thus making it easy to be found by those wishing to sign up. OptinMonster.com is a great company providing the best in email optins. Check them out today.
The campaign.
1)- Subscribers – You should continue to nurture your existing community members (subscribers) by providing valued content, while attempting to re-engage subscribers who’ve not been paying attention to your emails for a while.
Segmenting your subscribers is a good way to target your email campaigns to what they are interested in.
2)- Know your audience – This makes a big difference as you want to make sure that you are giving them what they need. Not giving them what they want can lead to a lack of interest and/or unsubscribing.
3)- Plan your email campaign – This includes everything from frequency, to what you are promoting to your goals for each campaign. Autoresponders are recommended for the regular initial emails sent out to your subscribers. Make sure your subject lines are eye catching as that can make a difference on whether or not people open those emails.
You can send out periodic email updates to your readers in addition to any follow up emails
If your newsletter plugin or software allows for it, you can segment your subscribers to better target their interests.

4)- Hook them – write your copy and create a good hook at the start to keep them reading and interested. Keep it short as not to lose interest. Keep the emails personalized for best results.
5)- Design matters – As is with your website or blog, the design does matter. Emails should be eye catching, informative and professional. If you took the time to create a very professional website or blog, all that would be waisted if your emails did not stand up to the same kind of quality or effort.
6)- Unsubscribed subscribers – This does and will happen, so if you get any of these, you need to honor it and delete them immediately. Don’t try to send them any emails after they unsubscribe. It’s best to follow the rules especially in this case. None of us like it when this happens, but it is a fact of life.
