How To Calculate A Click Through Rate And Why Should You Care?

Affiliate marketers send out lots of emails daily and some of the recipients never even open them.  Ever wonder what your success rate or “click through rate” is for your email campaigns is?  Ever wonder what a click through rate is?  For starters, the click through rate (CTR) is most common system of measurement for gauging the engagement within an email campaign. 

Why should you care?

You need to know how well you are engaging your email recipients and using CTR is the best way to calculate your success rate.  If you are unaware of your CTR then you won’t know how well your emails are being opened and valued by your subscribers.  Thus, you won’t know if your content is of any value to those on your email list.

Let’s expose some secrets to get you to improving your CTR:

First, let’s look at what is a good click through rate for you to compare with.  Basically, you’d base it upon yourself / individual basis instead the industry as a whole.  The better you can get your CTR to, would be your rate to compare with.

1)- Short persuasive meta description – Create a brief summarize description of your site which will entice people to click and view your site or post.   You want your meta description to be short but informative so your visitors can know what they are getting themselves into when clicking.  The size of your meta description should be kept at a minimum of 155 to 160 characters.

2)- Include images – Your post should include a couple of images which draw people to be more curious of your post.  Eye catching posts get the attention.  The images you add should have some connection to the content you are writing about.

3)- Use effective call to action – Whenever and wherever necessary, you should use good and effective call to action statements to entice your audience to click and take advantage of what you are offering.  Be careful not to overuse call to action statements and only put them where they fit.

4)- Use descriptive permalinks – WordPress gives you about 6 different options to choose from for your permalinks.  However, it is highly recommended that you use descriptive permalinks such as the option “Post Name”.  Descriptive permalinks help make it eye catching and easy to remember.  Your permalink should give you an idea of what the post is about.

5)- Website or post loading speed – If your post takes too long to load, chances are that the visitor will leave and go elsewhere.  You want to ensure that your file sizes aren’t to big.  These files include e-books, zip files, images and videos.

6)- Are you using keywords?  More specific, are you using long-tail-keywords?  If you are not, then you could be missing out on a lot of traffic for those who are looking for more specific information.  Just using shorter keywords may not yield the results you are looking for.

7)- Relevancy – In relating to #6 above, relevancy is crucial as you want to make sure that what you are writing and promoting about lines up with your keywords.  This can affect your reputation as well as your click through rates.  Not lining up with relevancy can lead to increased bounce rates which you also want to avoid.  If you are having a tough time with relevancy, then perhaps you need to do a little more research into what you are writing about.  Remember, as tedious as research can be, it’s also your best friend as your readers are not the only one’s learning, you are too.
