Affiliate Marketing: Things You Didn’t Know You Didn’t Know

In all things, there are those moments that you have the moment, “oh really, I didn’t know that”.  Trust me it happens, even in Affiliate Marketing.  With the fact things change all the time, there is always something new that comes down the pike.  So when you think you know just about all there is to know, one or two more things drop into your lap and that’s a good thing!.

It’s a well known fact, that all you have to do to sell other peoples stuff is to share your affiliate ID with someone so they can place an order.

Here are some affiliate marketing tips for beginners to chew on

Broke but not broken.

Most affiliate marketers are broke, trying to build this business.  Running on personal drive and ambition.  If you have any extra money, using it towards advertising is a plus.  You the Affiliate have to understand that you are just a number and the companies are more concerned about top performers who are making affiliate marketing their career.  So if you want to succeed, you need to be serious.  More reason to sign up for our FREE lessons.  Many successful Network or Affiliate Marketers have taken their skills to the Internet which is what lead to their success.

Popularity doesn’t always sell.

Think you have a very well known and popular product that you are promoting?  That won’t always guarantee success for you.  Also even if you didn’t have to create the product yourself, it still takes hard work and dedication to sell the products you represent.

The more you know.

The more you’ll grow.  The dreaded R word will take you far.  It’s called “Research”.  There’s nothing wrong with being an authority on a product or service.  You wallet will thank you.  You’ll want to find out everything you can about the company you are thinking/promoting before jumping in.  What you don’t want to do is go to a lot of trouble for a company that may disappear in a few months.  Research is something you’ll never stop doing. It’s like the old adage, “never stop learning”.

Methodology.

Which way are you going to run your business?  Or which one of these look like you?  1)  Fake it until you make it, this is a very popular way.  2)  Sell the Dream and not the product.  3) Both ways  1 and 2. 4)  Sell the business and the products.  Believe it or not, even today many marketers just sell the dream especially when they find they can’t sell the products.  That is actually sad.  There are a lot of really good and useful products out there in high demand.  It’s actually very important to your bank account to sell the products and that can build ready cash for you.

Clue in your success.

Only choose a handful of products to promote.  With all the research you need to do and effort to promote, you’ll find it easier and more profitable to keep your list of products low.  Research the level of demand your products have.  Yes Research, it does your bottom line good.  Research also has to do with more than just your competitors and products, it also has to do with keeping up with new methods and techniques.  You’ll find that some of what you know may become outdated and no longer be of any value as time goes on.

Get Exposed.

You need to get the word out and keep getting the word out.  You can’t rely on word of mouth alone.  You need to make use of multiple traffic sources to draw in traffic to your website.  One person who uses one source may not use another.  The louder you are the more you’ll get heard, well not loud but you heard the saying that the squeakiest gear gets the grease.

Not all is created equal.

You need to choose the right merchant to represent as an affiliate marketer.  They as I said are not all created equal.  Company A’s benefits and payout may not be as good as Company B’s.  And some of A’s guidelines may not be as good either.  Don’t be afraid to be choosy.  It’s a relationship and you want it to be a good one.  They are only concerned about your performance and you are only concerned about what they offer.

Keep an eye on your campaign.

You can’t fly blind.  You need to track measure and test your campaign.  If you don’t watch what is going on, you might get a bad surprise.  You need to be on top of your campaigns in case any changes need made.  Stats tell all in your efforts.  You’d be able to look back and see what worked for one item when another item isn’t doing so well.  This ties into using the right tools to monitor your campaign, traffic and ecommerce etc.  You need a tool like Google Analytics to monitor your traffic.  Newsletter campaign plugin to send and monitor you email campaigns.  For your product orders, an ecommerce plugin unless you are working directly with your merchant, which some provide that.

How long?

You’ve just started or have been working and have been wondering how long it takes to become a fulltime affiliate marketer.  While it can take a couple of months to start making some money.  In some cases you could make enough money to make a full time income in as little as 6 to 12 months.  But you must consider that this is not a get rich quick scheme.  It takes plenty of dedication and determination to succeed.  It takes time gather momentum.  Starting out part time while working a full time job is the best way to begin.  Don’t quit your day job until you are sure that you are making the right decision.
